Lalande Conservation Park
A forest with ancient trees growing on a geologically unique rocky outcropping, a meadow, and a long history of life on a family farm… a rich background for us to interpret and protect!
Neighbour to the park and a key partner in the development and stewardship of Lalande Conservation Park, Ecole des Sentiers was instrumental in project planning and installing some of the features. Teachers, parents and students were keen observers and users of the park prior to our work on this project. Budding naturalists, students learned to identify plants like poison ivy not just to protect themselves while enjoying time in the forest but to understand the role of this plant in the ecosystem. With some help from City of Ottawa Forestry, students planted trees to create shade and habitat. They also collected artifacts from the site and worked with an artist to create a unique sculpture. The park shelter provides an outdoor classroom and a community event space.
